One more month, piratey band! That's all that's left till the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the last book in the Harry Potter series. As you can imagine, there's a lot of excitement here on the HMS Libris. We're swabbing the decks, baking the pumpkin pasties, trying to make sure Fed Ex will deliver the books by seagull...
And next month's issue will have an HP theme. We'll have some reviews and analysis of the series so far, some suggested reading, and other fun stuff! (And the summer- reading t-shirt artwork... I'm sorry; it's been a rough piratey month...)
In the meantime, we've got some great reading suggestions in this issue! The awesome Divinemum has not one but two reviews. The first is for An Abundance of Katherines, by John Green. Nothing says summer like a road trip, and this book is about the fateful road trip of best friends Colin and Hassan. The title comes from the fact that Colin has only (and unsuccessfully) dated girls named Katherine. Read what Divinemum has to say about their adventures here!
Divinemum's second review is for The Mysterious Benedict Society. Nothing says summer like saving the world! Read about how four children team up to do it, and see if you're up to the challenge of the mysterious task at the end of the book. Check out Divinemum's review here!
Abigail (Not That Abigail) Van Buren is back with a review of Gilda Joyce: The Ladies of the Lake, the sequel to Gilda Joyce, Psychic Detective. Once again, she couldn't put the book down! This time Gilda is investigating a series of ghostly appearances at her new school, and the mystery is as big of a challenge as the one in the first book. Is Gilda up to the task? Of course! Read the review here!
Have you ever heard glass globes referred to as witch catchers? And what would happen if one got broken? That's the idea behind Witch Catcher, by Mary Downing Hahn. The excellent Charlotte Doyle brings us a review of this book, which she says "reaches out and grabs you right from the beginning." Read her review here!
And finally, I have a review of The Misadventures of Maude March a wild-west story of an accidental outlaw, a bank robbery (oops), a flatulent horse, scandalous newspaper stories, dime novels, and romance. Check it out here!
