I love princess stories.
From the stories in which the heroine doesn't discover that she's a princess until the very end to the stories in which the princess has to go into hiding and live like a peasant, I love them all. Maybe it's because I like courage. Maybe it's because I like justice. Fortunately, The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale has both.
This book is about Ani, the Crown Princess of Kildenree. Ani grows up believing that she is to be the next ruler of her land and is very surprised when her mother announces that the honor is to go to her younger brother and that Ani is to be married off to the prince of the neighboring country of Bayern. Ani reluctantly agrees to the betrothal, but is appears that someone else has other plans.
The Goose Girl is a retelling of the Grimm Brothers' fairy tale of the same name but it's also a story about duty and love and learning to fight for the things you want - all qualities that a good princess strives to attain. And with courage, Ani just might figure all of that out.

Genesse is a daughter of sunshine who dreams of a time and place where she can go barefoot year round. When she's not reading or practicing at being the Princess of Quite A Lot (which is actually more difficult than one would expect), she puts her English degree to good use by working in the Accounts Receivable department of a construction company.
